The open air Thai flower markets are always filled with bright, fresh flower garlands and offerings along with tons of different roses and (ridiculously cheap) orchids.
The main flower market in Chiang Mai is located behind Warorot Market along the Mae Ping River on the east side of town. Stalls and stalls of garlands and little wreaths made out of marigolds and jasmine line the streets and are open 24/7. While people buy these as offerings for various reasons everyday, each week there is a special ‘Buddha day’ in line with the lunar calendar where many people buy flowers for their homes’ or business” shrines and spirit houses.
It’s incredible to see the meticulously made arrangements, all done by hand, and know that these flowers are available day and night to drive by and pick up for as little as 30-40 cents. Sure beats going to the grocery store florist.
