Last week was prophetic. I started my photos of Vashon Island post by saying, “I got a new camera.” I didn’t actually. Jon has loaned me his SLR for my trip next week to Papua New Guinea so it’s not really “mine.”
But this week… I DO have a new camera. It’s because I managed to lose my little digital camera (not Jon’s SLR) last weekend. My new Canon Powershot arrived yesterday so I was left (gasp) without a camera for few days, including for my trip to Salt Lake City this week for the Outdoor Retailer Show.
So whadya gonna do when you’re flying over Mt. Rainier and you’re pining for the camera you lost just a few days prior? You pull out your iPhone and start snapping. I know a lot of people use their iPhone for every photo they take, but I usually do have a little digital with me, and use the iPhone in emergency situations. Sitting at my window seat on Southwest Airlines flying back into Seattle yesterday, it was an emergency. And I did manage to capture a couple of photos that weren’t half bad.
There isn’t a zoom on the app that comes with the iPhone so I use Zoom Photo app when I want to get a bit closer. Even so, the photo above is cropped which is why it looks grainy and as if we’re flying right next to it.

I do use my iphone camera sometimes, mainly for taking pics of the kids. I use an app called camera bag to make the shots more arty.
Cheers!

I have so many similar pictures. When I’m on the plane my SLR is usually packed away safely and not something I want to haul out so I take pics with my iphone. Then my favorite is to always get a new one when I travel and keep it on my background until I go somewhere new.
The iphone UPDATE has ZOOM!! If you haven’t updated, plug it into the computer for the update on itunes.
I wrote a similar post here and mentioned the zoom update http://www.travelersbarista.com/2010/07/foto-fun-friday-july-9th-2010.html

I use my phone all the time – it’s often handier and easier to find than the real camera + I can email the photo to a friend right away
