Today marks the start of our 6th annual WanderWomen Write Travel Writing Contest. For the next three months, we’ll be accepting stories from women around the globe. Some entries will be from established writers who make all or part of their income from their craft. The vast majority will be from beginning writers or wannabes, women who are eager to tell a story but don’t have a proper outlet to do so.
The entries will include a wide range of talent, from the spectacular, laugh-out-loud or make-my-cry variety to the, well, the ones that need a little work. But all entries are welcomed 🙂
So why enter?
Last year we ran a survey through our monthly newsletter. The overwhelming response was that women wanted a place where they could feel like they were part of a community. They wanted to submit stories, photos, and have a place to connect with other women travelers.
This travel writing contest helps to provide some of that sense of participation and community for the women’s travel writing community.
For all those budding writers who don’t know where to turn to get published, to get exposure, or to get a sense of how their writing compares with others, the contest is meant to get the creative juices flowing, provide a goal (December 31) and, hopefully, an ounce of courage and motivation (usually through the prizes we offer) to get women to take the time to sit down and write.
On average, we receive about 400 entries. We have an editor who reads through all the entries that then get forwarded to our panel of judges who have the difficult task of sorting through the top stories to choose a Grand Prize winner and winners for each of four categories.
We’re thrilled to have Expedia once again as our main sponsor, providing the Grand Prize (a 6-night stay at the all-inclusive Westin Golf Resort & Spa, Playa Conchal on the Pacific Ocean shores of Costa Rica including two $600 vouchers for airfare from the U.S). Briggs & Riley has kindly provided their new TORQ carry-on bag to our top category winners.
Through this contest, I hope you’re able to Find Your Story. Not only so that you have a chance to win one of these great prizes but so that you can find deeper meaning in your travels. What IS it that motivates you to leave the comfort of your home and moves you once at your destination? Tell us your story.
You can use this link to get started now or read more about the contest here.
Not a writer? You can also participate in our monthly travel photo contest and join our newly launched Wanderlust and Lipstick Facebook group.
Travel Well,
Beth

Don’tcha love them?
An inspired way to run a contest. The writing — and thinking and reading — are the main rewards, but there’s a couple of bonus prizes, too.
Looks like a great contest with terrific prizes.
