I live in the world of travel, not the most glamorous of fields. But every once in awhile I get to rub elbows.
Last week it was with some of the better known Norwegians, including Princess Martha Louise (left).
The Princess co-hosted a Christmas Concert from Norway, which you can catch on PBS during Christmas-time. Such a delight, this Princess. I had seen a video of her prior to my departure for Norway. I was so smitten that I thought might just want to hug her when I saw her, but I held back.
We met, we chatted about Seattle and we had our picture taken together. She has a Facebook fan page, but I don’t seem to be able to friend her. Oh well.
I also spent a bit of time with the folks in this picture. On the far left and right are Mari and Hakon Samuelson. This brother and sister duo are not only excellent musicians (he on cello, she on violin), but they are the producers of the Christmas concert previously mentioned.
Also pictured here is Harald Zwart, director of Karate Kid (among other movies). Harald is a favorite son of Norway who has now made it big in Hollywood. And soprano Measha Brueggergosman, just nominated for a Grammy for Best Classical Vocal performance.
And though I wasn’t rubbing elbows with the following folks, here are some highlights from the Nobel Peace Prize Concert held on December 11, 2010.
I’ve always been a big fan of India.Arie. I think she’s been overshadowed by other artists however, and was thrilled to see her perform. Her accompanying piano player was Idan Raichel (whom I believe should win a Nobel Peace Prize himself for what he’s accomplished in the world of music).
Robyn, a Swedish singer, was a huge hit with the audience. She was a fantastic performer and I look forward to exploring her music.
While there were other performers at this concert, the grand finale was Barry Manilow. Yes, that is Barry. It took some prodding on his part, but he did finally get the audience up and dancing during his 5-song extravaganza…
Now I’m home in Seattle. Getting ready to celebrate the holidays with my family and friends, whom I consider to be rockstars in and of themselves! And then off to India in January. No big stars (that I’m aware of) on that tour 🙂
