I’m not sure that I can express myself any better about the year ahead than I did last year at this time. Because what was true last year, holds true today. Do take a moment to read that post (please) but in short, it’s about looking at life as a glass half full.
We all face a change of plans, uncertainty and tragedy throughout our lives. But it’s the way in which we handle these situations that make us who we are. I’m not suggesting that we plaster a smile on our face in times of the most dire circumstances, but even within the darkest moments, we can hold our heads up and make the best of it.
I can’t say that I am as excited about 2014 as I was about 2013. That’s likely because the latter part of 2013 was more, well let’s say frustrating, for me than I realized and I was pretty eager to set it aside. I just didn’t realize how eager. Until now. Because I’m not as eager to set 2013 aside.
Now I feel pretty much at peace. 2013 was a brilliant year for me on many levels. And while I always look forward to a fresh start with the new year, I don’t feel that same level of excited anticipation for 2014, as if something better is on the horizon. I’m not sure just how much better things can get ’cause they’re pretty darn good right now.
Rather than bore you with my list of New Year’s resolutions (and yes, Jon and I make them every year), let’s just say that the list consists of small every day items. Things that will help me get closer to my goals of being healthier of mind and body, having stronger relationships with family and friends and of being able to inspire, encourage and help more women to live out their travel dreams.
In the words of the Dalai Lama, “Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them.”
More of that in 2014, please.
What are you looking forward to in 2014?
Travel Well,
Beth

I know the feeling! That’s why New Year’s Eve is my favorite holiday, it’s such a gift to be able to start fresh, while keeping good memories from the days past. Happy 2014!
