Your Travel Tips

June 25th, 2007

I’ve been receiving some great travel tips from you Wanderlusters and it made me think that I should add an area where you can all participate and learn from each other.

One that I recently heard (and promptly included it in my newsletter) was to NOT carry a mirror with you when you travel. As tempted as you might be to primp, you’re probably better off not getting too obsessed with your hair or makeup.

Do you have a travel tip you’d like to share? Leave a comment here or send me an email at beth at WanderlustAndLipstick dot com.

Happy Travels

If I can make my own suggestion, I’d like to give you some tips where to stay in London. One of them is Manchester Spa Hotel. Here’s the detail:

Beth, you are absolutely right on! One of the most liberating parts of travel, especially to Asia, is that you don’t need to put on fancy clothes for dinner or impress anyone with your appearance. In fact, those who do wear make up look ridiculous. At least the way I travel! I stood in the courtyard of the Namgyal Temple in Dharamasala after listening to the Dalai Lama for two weeks and happened to be next to a beautiful journalist who travels the world. I had met her a few weeks earlier at an evening event and noted that she was very made up, hair carefully coiffed, and dressed in classy western clothes. We talked and laughed and enjoyed each other. I did a double take when I saw her on this day. “You look great!” I said. “Au Naturale,” she quipped. “I haven’t worn eye makeup or lipstick since that evening when we met and it’s so liberating! And, honestly, she looked so much younger and so much happier. And think of all the time we had both saved. Just carry some cleanser and face cream and you’re in business.
