WanderGear Wednesday: Win Gear from XShot!
This month you can win an XShot Pocket and iPhone Case. Read on…
The XShot is a monopod on which you mount your camera. You then set your camera’s timer and take a photo of yourself. No more extending your arm for a closeup face shot showing off your double chins. It’s a simple but brilliant idea and perfect for solo travelers.
(This is Jon and I at Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan taking a photo our ourselves.)
It requires a bit of adjusting as you get the placement of you and your surroundings just right. But that’s all part of the fun.
I’ve been using the original XShot for years. It’ll take me a few shots to get myself framed up just right. And as I snap and then re-adjust, invariably someone offers to take the photo for me. I politely decline as it’s far more fun to figure it out on my own! Most people laugh. But then they ask where I got my XShot – because they know a brilliant idea when they see it.
The XShot folks have two new products out: the XShot Pocket and the XShot iPhone Case.
When compacted down, the Pocket version is 2.5 inches smaller than the original XShot, making it easier to carry around in your, well, pocket. Extended, it’s 7 inches smaller than the original version. While this half foot+ is a bit short, there’s still plenty of room for you to include yourself and background in the image.
As for the iPhone Case… it’s a must for anyone posting their travel pics on their Facebook account. Your phone slips right into the case and then that gets mounted directly to the XShot. The one caveat is that you’ll have to download an app that allows you to take time-delayed photos (or you could use it strictly for video). Shansa Phi is the app I’m currently using. It’s free and seems to do the trick.
Currently, only the original XShot and the iPhone case are available at XShot.com. BUT, you have two chances here to win the new XShot Pocket AND the iPhone Case.
1) Subscribe to the Wanderlust and Lipstick Newsletter during the month of December and you’ll be automatically entered.
2) Subscribe to my RSS feed (at right) via email or in a reader. If you subscribe in a reader, leave me a comment below to let me know you’re a new subscriber. Please leave your email address (not made public) so that I can contact you if you’re the winner. Otherwise check back here in early January. Winner will have 3 days to respond once being contacted.
New to both? Subscribe to the newsletter and the RSS feed for 2 chances to win!
This contest closes at 11:59 pm PST on December 31st, 2009 and one lucky winner will be chosen on January 1, 2010.
Travel Well!

Somewhat unrelated, but I absolutely love that photo on top of the Tiger’s Nest, especially with the prayer flags. I would love to visit Bhutan one day. Beautiful!
I just subscribed in my Google reader! I’d love to win that XShot!
The XShot Pocket is not yet out so this is your chance to win one, but both the XShot 2.0 and the XShot iPhone case with the built-in tripod mount are available at http://www.xshot.com.

I Wuv Wanderluster’s Work!
Love this – just adds a little distance over us trying to take
our picture by holding the camera at arms’ length.
But I got another one that is made by SEJAT, T-200L
because I can’t find another cheaper XSHOT now with $18.00
so I change to SEJAT T-200L since it has same SPEC to xshot.
SEJAT T-200L is a real help for someone who needs a third hand or a longer arm. This allows me to take a picture at normal height also.
with this gadget I can raise the camera up above my head and get the “straight on” shot like everyone else instead of having all my pictures looking “up hill”
Subscribing via google reader. This would be perfect for my sister. She is always taken photos of herself and then saying…”too close, too close.”
I subscribe to the Wanderlust and Lipstick Newsletter
Thanks!!
