Virgin’s Leading the Way
Virgin America, the offshoot of Virgin Airlines (based in the U.K.) began selling tickets yesterday for U.S. domestic flights, including San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Lost Wages, I mean Las Vegas. They’ll begin flying in August.
San Diego will be added shortly and within a year, the airline expects to serve a total of 10 cities and 30 cities in five years.

Virgin, known for high quality service, will reportedly provide flights with low fares, excellent service and cutting edge entertainment. Leather seats, massage chairs (!) and mood lighting are also included. Right now, coast to coast flights are about $140 one way. Wowwie. If only they flew out of Seattle!
You can get a peek at what all the hubbub is about here on this video.
Not only does it appear that your flight will be more pleasant than any other service currently available, but Virgin America’s customer service staff will be located in… sit down for this… America! Rather than hiring out the work to offshore services in India or some other country, Virgin’s phones will be ringing domestically.
Happy Travels!

It seems airline companies are finally getting the hint. Jetblue offers more legroom and movies, Virgin comes into town, and apparently American Airlines is looking into onboard high speed internet and has been working on customer service as well. It’s about time airlines realized collusion wasn’t going to keep customers from looking elsewhere!
Yes, the pendulum seems to be swinging in favor of the customer. Enough people are being vocal about bad service that I imagine we will continue to see changes in the marketplace.
