Undaunted, we continue to travel

August 16th, 2006

While researching for my forthcoming book, Wanderlust and Lipstick; the Essential Guide for Women Traveling Solo, I’m humbled by the adventurous spirit and insight that I’ve encountered as I interview my sisters-in-travel.

One woman spent three months kayaking along the coast of Chile. Others have packed up their camping gear and set out for the mountains for days at a time. One woman in her 30’s quit her job in order to travel Europe and Asia. Another woman joked that she “sacrificed her ankle” in the name of travel when she was infected with a bone eating bacteria on her way to Timbuktu and now sports a pin that holds her leg to her foot. No lie.

Despite ever more restrictions at the airport, higher fuel prices, and the growing threats from radical misguided individuals, we’re undaunted. We’re still traveling. And I have no doubt that as women we are representing our respective countries and cultures in a positive manner.

I invite you to share your insights, travel experiences, and comments in this website’s Forum. We want to hear from you!

Happy Travels!
