Travel Gear Holiday Gift Guide

by Beth (December 6th, 2009)

If you’re looking for some items a bit bigger than stocking stuffers, here’s a list of some of my fave travel products.

Xshot iPhone CaseXShot Monopod – This nifty piece of gear is an extendable arm that makes taking photos of yourself easy. You mount your camera on the end, set the timer and hold out the XShot with your iconic destination in the background. Perfect for solo travelers and it doesn’t take up a lot of space in your daybag. New is the iPhone case. During the month of December, win your very own – see details.$30 for the XShot monopod, $20 for the iPhone case.  Also, available at XShot.

*****

Sony Reader Digital BookSony Digital eReader – Though I do love the feel of a book in my hand, as a traveler, I’m a fan of digital readers. The Sony eReader is about 5 x 7 inches and about a half inch thick. The process for downloading books is relatively easy, though you do need to be connected to a computer in order to download. Keyboard layout is excellent. From $200. Available on Amazon

*****

KindleAmazon Kindle - I can’t not mention the Kindle when talking about digital readers. The obvious benefit of the Kindle is the ability to wirelessly download books (from Amazon, of course). From $260. Available on Amazon

*****

Timbuk2 Checkpoint BagTimbuk2 Checkpoint – This has become my favorite travel bag. At 22″ it’s small enough to fit in the overhead bin on a flight but large enough to carry everything I need. It includes a shoe pouch and skateboard wheels that give it a smooth ride. From $198. Available on Amazon

*****

Venturesafe 20L from PacsafePacSafe Bags – Choose most any of their bags and a PacSafe is going to be a great edition to your travel gear. One of my recent additions is the 20L daybag. This features slashproof handles and tamperproof zippers. $100 Available on Amazon

*****

Digita lFoci 250 gbDigital Foci PhotoSafe – This digital photo storage device is an easy way to back up images while you’re traveling. I learned my lesson after a SD card went south and I lost 300 images I had taken in India (I later had them recovered for $100 at a computer shop). Now I just back up my images every night on this. 250GB for $170. Available on Amazon

*****

Java Press GSIOutdoor JavaPress from GSI - For campers and coffee lovers, the JavaPress will serve you up one strong cuppa joe. This BPA-free press is built for the outdoors – it’s shatter resistant, and has a split ring plunger that prevents the grounds from getting into your coffee. From $21. Available on Amazon

Travel Well!
