The Redwoods, The Coast
Heading north out of the Bay Area (and the traffic, oh-the-traffic), I made a beeline to the Redwoods via Highway 101. I followed the Avenue of the Giants, a minor detour that meanders directly through Redwood forests but parallels 101, for about 30 miles before jumping back on the highway. The twisty road would have been perfect for my motorcycle and I did see a gang of about 30 riders making their way along this road.
I made my way into Oregon and hugged the coast there where, if the weather had been about 30 degrees warmer, would have been the most beautiful sunset I think I’ve ever seen. I would have liked to plunk myself down on the beach to soak up the last of the rays that were melting into the ocean but it was just too chilly.
In several spots, the rocky formations jutting out from the water covered the sun and sprayed wide rays.
I overnighted with my brother, Jim, in Bandon and was happy that he had a spare bedroom rather than a couch! From Bandon it was straight on back to Seattle. No Sunday afternoon traffic jams and a smooth ride the whole way.

GORGIOUS THANKS
I just LOVE that drive up from San Francisco!
Once I modified it by taking US 1, then cutting over the Healdsburg, then continuing northbound. It takes a little longer, but you bypass all that frustrating traffic and instead have beautiful scenery. Plus, Healdsburg is such a charming litte town . . .you might be tempted to stop off for the night! You can compensate for your late delay by stocking up on California wine . . . it always makes for a welcome gift.
Oh, Beth, thanks for sharing those glorious pictures. Your photography is superb. Meg
I finally got my second album up on Facebook. If you want to see them here are the links.
