Russian Magazine for Women Drivers
Woman at the Wheel, a new magazine for women drivers in Russia, aims to provide women with a bit of self esteem when it comes to getting behind the wheel.
Driving has long been a “man’s job” in Russia. However, as cars become more popular in this post-communist country, so does the fact that more women are hitting the gas pedal. Over the past five years there has been a tremendous increase of women drivers and this new magazine, which includes articles on fashion and psychology, is sure to give even more women the confidence to begin driving and to shake off the prejudice that has been aimed at them.
One of the topics in the first issue was getting over the fear factor of driving. Imagine that! We’re getting over the fear factor of quitting our jobs, climbing mountains and backpacking around the world for a year and Russian women are being encouraged to get their driver’s license. If I could speak Russian, I’d say, “You Go Ruskie-Girl!”.
Happy Travels!
