Rubbing Elbows with a Travel Guru

June 27th, 2007

Last week, I had the very special opportunity to see Tony Wheeler (co-founder of the Lonely Planet Guides) speak in Seattle. Following his presentation, I was invited to a private reception at Wide World Books & Maps.

Tony and Maureen Wheeler have created one of the largest and widely read set of guidebooks considered by many as “bibles” when they’re on the road.

Tony was in town on a book tour to promote his two new books: Bad Lands: A Tourist on the Axis of Evil and Unlikely Destinations: The Lonely Planet Story. I picked up Unlikely Destinations. As a publisher and author myself, I’m interested in how they built their business.

Tony was charming, humble and funny. In short, someone you’d be happy to meet on the road.

Happy Travels!
