Photo of the Day: New Orleans Remembered

August 29th, 2007

Anyone who has known me for a long time knows that I spent much of my twenties in New Orleans, attending countless Mardi Gras festivities, JazzFests and both zydeco and cajun dances. On the anniversary of Katrina’s destruction, I dug out these photos from my journeys.

Have you been back to New Orleans or the Gulf Coast post-Katrina? I was in Mobile, AL a few months after the storm and was amazed at the damage from wind and water. It was remarkable.

I haven’t been back, Jeremy, but I do want to go. It’s disconcerting to me at how much violence is going on there - high murder rates, muggings, etc.
