Pee Before You Board - Save the Planet
China Southern Airlines has calculated that it takes about one liter of fuel to flush the toilet at 30,000 feet. Therefore, it is recommending that all boarding passengers use the loo prior to boarding.
Although the thought of the airline promoting this unique way of saving fuel (and money for the airline) makes us all giggle, it’s really not a bad idea when it comes to following an eco-friendly travel life. Just think of all the fuel that could be saved if we all followed this suggestion!
By the way - ever wonder where the term “loo” came from? The most popular theory is that it came from the phrase “regardez l’eau” which means “watch out for the water” in French. This was shouted by servants as they threw the contents of chamber pots out the window. Definitely something you’d want to watch out for.
Happy Travels!
