Eating Well for Women Travelers

July 27th, 2006

We all joke about gaining weight while we’re traveling. However, with a little conscious planning, this can be an exception rather than the norm.

Next time you’re on the road follow a few simple steps to stay healthy and stay on top of your game.

First, skip the airplane and airport food altogether and bring a few snacks. You’ll feel much better if you pack (and actually eat) a small pre-measured bag of walnuts and raisins instead of a chocolate bar. Even a blended fruit smoothie from the airport concession stand will be full of sugar (natural and added through yogurt and ice cream).

Second, once you’re at your destination, don’t eat any more than you normally would at any given meal. If possible, eat less. Make lunch your big meal of the day, it’ll help keep your energy up as you pound the pavement checking out the local sights, and you won’t feel so self conscious eating by yourself during the day.

Finally, exercise! Keep up a healthy routine. If you work out at home, go to the gym or go swimming while you’re on the road. Walk whenever you can.

Happy Travels!
