About whatboundaries

· Blog

When two women in their 40’s decide to sell their homes, cars, motorcycles, and most other possessions that wouldn’t fit in a large backpack and head off for a year-plus long trip around the world, people around them begin to worry.

But after over ten months of travel – including thirteen weeks backpacking across eleven countries in Europe, ten weeks of coral reef research in the Mexican jungle, three months in South Africa and Kenya studying and photographing big game animals, those people aren’t worrying anymore because Lisa Chavis and Cheryl MacDonald are having the time of their lives!

From eating and drinking our way through Europe to surviving possums in the bed and bucket showers in Mexico, this adventure has no boundaries. Our favorite motto uses Helen Keller’s famous words “Life is either a great adventure or nothing.”

Along the way, we’re chronicling the fun by writing travel articles and the inspirational book series What Boundaries? Live Your Dream! Come with us on this journey as we learn, laugh, and try in some small part to give something back to this wonderful and vast world we now call home.

Cheryl in THE WALL!

We’re on a Quest! To visit all of the New Seven Wonders of the World. So far we’ve been awed by the ancient city Petra, played on the ball court of Chichen Itza, pretended we were gladiators in the Roman Coliseum, and huffed and …

Petra, Jordan – One of the NEW Seven Wonders of the World

Petra Siq

We’re walking through high rose-colored cliffs, the sky peeking through to light our dusty footsteps. The path is called the Siq – meaning shaft. It is a very narrow path at some points measuring no more than three meters across. Much of the path …

Bangkok’s Floating Market – Damnoen Saduak

Imagine taking absolutely everything that you’ll need to do your job today with you – in a small wooden boat you’ll paddle down a canal (khlong) and from which you’ll sell your goods directly. Whether you’re frying up huge quantities of bananas in a vat of hot oil like these …

Getting Lucky in Beijing!

Beijing Olympics

Not exactly what you’re thinking, I’m sure! :-)

Our travel plans brought us to beautiful Beijing, China just three days before the Olympics were to conclude. Of course, being the “seat-of-the-pants” travelers that we’ve become this past year, we had no tickets for any of the events.

One …

Giza

Pyramids
Last Thursday, we started our Intrepid Pyramids to Petra tour in the busy city of Cairo, Egypt. It was great to be traveling again!

Chaotic is a mild term to describe Cairo. Horns incessantly honking, taxi’s skimming by within inches, buses crammed with …

Stonehenge

Stonehenge

A visit to prehistoric Stonehenge in the British Isles on the Salisbury plain turned out to be great day trip from London – AND gave us a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city for a while.

Stonehenge, at the center …

Manatee Magic!

manatee

Swimming with the manatees in Florida! Sometimes we forget that great things can be close to home, too. We’re “home” in Florida for about six weeks before continuing on our “around-the-world” trip to Egypt, Beijing, and the South Pacific. This time we headed to Homosassa River springs, ...

Pickpocketed in Paris!

Our first day in Paris didn’t quite go exactly as planned.

It was a 1 and 1/2 hour train ride from Brussels, landing us in the Paris Gare du Nord station. We got great directions to our hotel and proceeded through to the Metro trains. When we got to the …
