The Fugoo Sport Speaker is a top-shelf outdoor speaker, and the price tag shows it. But if you are an adventurer/music aficionado, these might just be worth it. Weighing in at just 1.1 pounds, these speakers offer incredible sound. They have six custom-designed acoustic drivers, which all project music in different directions for 360 degrees of sound.
The Fugoo speakers stopped me in my tracks at Outdoor Retailer this summer. They were completely submerged in a tiny fish tank, still belting out music. I had to try them!
I was sent one of their sport speakers for my own listening pleasure a few weeks later. Since then, I’ve blasted my tunes and podcasts on bike rides short and long, road trips, and camping excursions across Washington State.
I’ve used them in wet situations, rolled them in dirt, and dropped them more than once. I’ve been happily surprised by these sporty speakers.
Pros:
- Great Sound Quality: These are tiny speakers, yet they pack a mean auditory punch. Their multi-directional sound makes it easy to hear them on a bike, no matter which way they are facing.
- Durable: It goes without saying that sports speakers should stand up to abuse, but I was impressed by these speakers. I dropped them while they were playing and they didn’t skip a beat, and no curb was too big for them while I was riding.
- Water and Dust Resistant: I’ve used these in the rain on my bike and rolled them in the dust while camping on the East side of the state. Their sport jacket did the trick. Fugoo says they are waterproof to one meter for 30 minutes, but I didn’t try that out (I like them too much!).
- Long Lasting Battery Life: These things last forever! The Fugoo website says 40 hours of continuous play, and I believe it. I’ve listened to hours and hours of audio books and podcasts on these things, and hardly ever have to charge them.
- Easy to Synch: The speakers synched to my iPhone in a snap, and remembered the connection every time, making it easy to listen wherever I roam.
Cons:
- Useless Bike Mount: I was disappointed to find that the mount they sent me does not fit anywhere on my road bike. The mounts are meant to attach to circular bike parts, but not a single part of my road bike is circular, except for the seat post, which was too short. The point of this review was to try it out on a bike with the mount, so this was a major bummer. I hope they’ll create a mount that fits into the two holes that usually hold my water bottle holder — those are universal!
- Not All About the Base: If I listened regularly to anything with a massive base, these wouldn’t be my top pick. But, then again, I probably would be springing for some huge speakers and listening inside.
Just keep spinning. — Arielle
