Halloween wines are all the rage. Before the recent wine craze, a good Halloween party had a spiked punch with a floating hand-shaped ice in it or the good ol’ cauldron dry ice concoction. Now, there is a great selection of quality Halloween-themed wines to pair with the Deviled eggs and Mummified Pigs in a Blanket for your 2011 Halloween party.
Here are some modern witches’ brew aka Halloween-themed wines for your upcoming ghouls and goblins get-together sure to make your victims scream with delight:
Whitestone Winery Scared to Pieces Red Wine –
From grapes grown near Lake Roosevelt in Columbia Valley, Washington, Scared to Pieces is a full-bodied red wine that pairs well with cooler weather and hardy, fall foods. It is one of their three holiday themed wines including “Love you to Pieces” for Valentine’s Day and “Pieces on Earth” as the annual winter holiday wine. ($21)
Vampire Vineyards –
Supposedly Vampire Vineyards are owned by a coven of vampires, although in some circles, lawyers are likened to vampires as the founder is a New York attorney. Vampire Vineyards of Transylvania (via Paso Robles grapes) has a bevy of wines to quench your Halloween blood lust: six varietals of Vampire Wine from Chardonnay to Cabernet, Trueblood Pinor Noir, three varietals of Dracula Zinfandel and four varietals of Chateau du Vampire. ($11-30)
When in Los Angeles, drop by their tasting room to experience firsthand the blood of the vine while mingling with other souls from beyond…Vampire Vineyards has opened the first and only tasting room in Beverly Hills naturally named Vampire Lounge & Tasting Room.
Armida Winery calls their 2009 Poizin a “Wine to Die For”. Hailing from Northern California, it is the perfect party wine – fruit driven with notes of fresh plum and bing cherry with hints of milk chocolate and a vanilla finish. ($25) The Reserve Poizin even comes with its own wooden coffin! ($80)
