My closet smells particularly good at the moment because I have stocked up on my yearly supply of Marfa Brand Soap. This year I may have gone overboard. It’s just too difficult to choose when you’re at the source and have so many options!
The the past couple of years I’ve been purchasing a bar or two of Marfa Brand Soap while visiting Marfa, Texas. I started picking it up at The Get Go, then discovered a blend created for Freda boutique.
On a recent visit, I stopped by Tienda M and found they have their own petite blend. A few days later, I discovered that Marfa Brands has a small storefront all its own.
Ginger and Lenny Bruce were kind enough to give me a tour of the space and share a bit of the process, including the different ways oils are extracted and how that can influence the scent.

I inhaled every bar of soap and purchased each one I had a physical reaction to.
Woodsong: A Woodsy Fresh Scent with A Touch of Charcoal
Tea Tree Lemongrass with Lemon Peel & Green Tea
Pine Needle & Cypress with Charcoal Swirl
Cedarwood & Sage with Ground Almond & Marfa Maid Goat Milk
Rosemary Peppermint with Powdered Rosemary
Rose Clay with Lavender, Patchouli & Licorice Tea
I also picked up three special blends:
Ranch Road with Lapsang Souchong Tea (for El Cosmico)
Freda blend with Orange Peel & Calendula Petals
Tienda M blend
NINE bars of soap? Yes. I have never been wooed by a line of soap before. It’s intoxicating.
It was fun and inspiring to explore the laboratory where Ginger works to create each unique blend. There isn’t a huge production line – this is a labor of love.
This is used to cut individual bars of soap.
A beautiful wall of custom blends.
Stop in and see which blends make your head spin! If you can’t make it to Marfa, you may purchase soaps directly from Marfa Brands online.
If you live in Austin, Texas you can pick them up at JM DryGoods or Feathers Vintage Boutique.
Bonus: Marfa Brands also makes drinking glasses by recycling Mexican Topo Chico bottles, as well as Sol beer bottles. Love! Happy Earth Day!
May your journey be your muse,
Rachel
