I remember the first time I happened upon Cobra Rock Boot Company.
The building is beautiful and the name, intriguing, since it doesn’t include, “Boot Company.” I thought it could be pretty much anything, half expecting it to be a biker shop.
We stumbled in and discovered this beautiful workshop!
There’s also a small curated nook with different artisan gift items. I fell in love with the custom boots. South Highland Boots, to be exact. One style and unisex. They have a vintage vibe, while also looking like they can carry you through rough terrain. There is a waiting list and I’m on it. Hooked!
Yes, these will be the most expensive shoes I own. To meet the people who craft something I’m going to utilize so often just feels good to me. As I get older, I’m more thoughtful about my purchases and what is worth investing in. I can see myself enjoying these boots in many environments for years to come.
Logan Caldbeck and Colt Miller own and operate Cobra Rock. Unfortunately, Logan was out doing their taxes when I stopped by this time (my second visit in six months). Colt was kind enough to allow me to take photos when I told him I wanted to write about their boots and shop.
Stop by if you’re in Marfa and maybe you’ll fall in love with the South Highland Boot or find a few goodies in the shop. I like the train track squashed penny necklaces and earrings made by Lorna from Fancy Pony Land, the Texas Field Notes journals, the Texas t-shirts are my favorite anywhere in the state, and a slew of other unique items.
Pennies squashed by the trains passing through town. Earrings crafted by Lorna Leedy.
