Not a hot dog person myself, I still think these are tempting.

This is pretty typical of the well-appointed food stalls you’ll find along Bangkok’s sidewalks. Meander the city day or night, and there will be a food vendor offering up some tasty item or two. I’m told that many apartments in Bangkok don’t even have kitchens, so that leaves most office workers picking up their meals on their way to work.

And most look this great as if they are created with some TLC. Take THAT New York hot dog vendors

Even a vegetarian can appreciate the beauty in meaty vendor food served throughout Bangkok. You pretty much can’t walk a block without getting taken in by the smells of noodles being cooked up in a wok, spring rolls being deep fried or skewers being cooked over an open flame.

While much of the cooked food consists of meat, I’ve never had a problem finding vegetarian options – particularly fresh fruit!

Seattle is filled with a large array of ethnic restaurants. They aren’t all spectacular but you definitely can get most anything you want here.

I do love Thai food and recently went to Lotus Thai in the Wallingford neighborhood. The restaurant’s been around for more than 20 years – a feat considering the number of small restaurants that tend to open and close rather quickly throughout the city.

It’s probably lasted because it’s got a neighborhood feel (something we Seattleites are fiercely proud of) and is reasonable in both food quality and price.

Above is the Phad See Ew with tofu. This is one of my favorite dishes to order at any Thai restaurant. It includes wide noodles in a sauce and then topped with veggies and, in this case, tofu.

Lotus Thai
2101 N 45th St.
Seattle, WA
(206) 632-2300
