The Fourth of July has always been one of my favorite holidays, and it’s a great day for food! Hmm, wonder if there’s a correlation there… Here are some perfect July 4th recipes for every gathering.
Picnic: A picnic is a perfect kind of Fourth of July celebration and something about mason jars says picnic to me. They’re easy to serve, pack compactly and have a sort of timelessness to them. This recipe caught my eye immediately. Just look at that whipped cream! Heavenly.
Crowd/Potluck: July 4th is a perfect time to get together with large groups of family and friends. One of my favorite dishes for a large gathering is salads. Easy to make, transport and usually not that offensive, especially if you’re not sure about dietary preferences. This Cucumber Honeydew Salad with Feta doesn’t follow the July 4th color code, but it screams of fresh summer ingredients and I love the contrast of cucumber with honeydew.
BBQ: Nothing says Fourth of July like a BBQ! I’ve never been a huge fan of super strong BBQ sauces, but lately they’ve been growing on me. I ran across this recipe recently for Raspberry Hot BBQ Sauce, and I’m so eager to try it! Anything that combines fruity sweetness with spice is alright in my book.
Dessert: I’ve seen these strawberries show up on Pinterest recently in preparation for the holiday, and I think they’re the cutest things! They seem fairly simple to make and certainly make an impression! Not to mention, they look DELICIOUS. White chocolate and strawberry? Yes please.
BONUS! Twists on the classic American Flag Cake
There are many iterations of this classic July 4th offering. But how about adding a new twist?
- Paint the outside in icing like the flag for a traditional look, but make the inside a tiramisu! I know there’s a metaphor in there somewhere…
- Or, reverse it and have the flag show up inside.
