King Cake

King Cakes come in a variety of sizes and shapes and are often associated with Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Decorated in Mardi Gras colors (purple, gold and green) you can usually find a little trinket baked into the cake. Often this is a little plastic baby.

The person who finds the little baby is then responsible for purchasing the King Cake at next year’s festivities.

Oh man, what I wouldn’t give for a piece of King Cake today. I lived in New Orleans for a few years, but haven’t had a bite of this deliciousness since. From the start of Mardi Gras after 12th Night in January, all the way through Fat Tuesday, King Cakes are in every office, at every party, and in general all over the place. So much fun. Thanks for sharing a “slice.”
