Special vegetarian dinner at Martine’s in Salt Lake City.
While at the Outdoor Retailer Show this weekend, I was invited to a dinner in honor of Sanita Clogs. These folks have been around for a loooooong time – as a matter of fact, they were the makers of Dansko Clogs until that company took their manufacturing to China (ahem). Love what they do. Was a bit sad about their story (they still make the same clogs – just under their own brand). And had a great time getting to know some of the folks behind the brand.
But I’m hear to talk food!
Above is the dinner plate I was served at Martine Cafe at our little outing. This upscale restaurant, located a couple of blocks from the Salt Palace, is much-about-meat. But, I was able to request a vegetarian meal (chef’s choice, I suggested). What I got was this amazing plate of perfectly cooked and spiced (in a soy-type sauce) veggies. The mushrooms were heavenly and the broccolini cooked to perfection. In addition to the fresh bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, this made for a hearty meal.
But of course there was room for dessert!
This was Martine’s Grilled Gingerbread with Caramel and (a somewhat melting) Gelato. OK – I could have eaten like 3 of these. Must learn how to make this!
