As summer threatens to start, it’s time to break out my warm weather shoes and put the boots away.
This weekend I pulled out my Teva Open Toachi Sandals for a walk around the neighborhood and was reminded about my fondness for the variety of shoes from this company that originated the sport sandal.
The Open Toachi sandals are amphibious. I can therefore wear them in the rain (not uncommon in the Pacific Northwest) or as I stomp through puddles and on trails during wet hikes, without worrying about them getting ruined. When they do get dusty/sandy/dirty, I can just rinse them off with a blast of water, and they come clean right away.
The bottoms have a strong rubber grip for good friction and no slipping on muddy hikes.
I’m used to having Velcro straps on my Teva sandals to tighten them up but I have found that the Velcro can become worn and will fly open over time (admittedly, I wear them a lot so this doesn’t surprise me). The Toachi’s, however, have a buckle snap, which I suspect is going to last longer than the Velcro.

The Toachis seem to be a bit more durable than others I’ve owned – that’s just my gut feeling and I haven’t owned them long enough to totally weigh in on that. However, there were a couple of things that made these not exactly perfect for me…
While these incorporate Microban Zinc to inhibit foot odor, I have to admit that these were the only pair of Tevas I’ve ever owned in which I had a problem with slightly smelly feet. This wouldn’t sway me from wearing them but it might mean they wouldn’t be the ONLY pair of shoes I’d carry on a trip.
I also discovered a slight discomfort in the shape of the bottom. It’s likely that the arch of my right foot is slightly flatter than my left as I feel like I have a slight bump sitting underneath the arch. Both the left and the right shoes seem identical with regard to the curves and arches so I’m sure this is an issue with my own foot. I notice this when I first put the sandal on, but usually not for long afterward.
Over all, another great sandal from Teva. Good for the beach, walks or travel to warm destinations, the Open Toachis will serve you well!
