After a semester in Central America, WanderChic has been readjusting to life in her inland Northwest habitat. I miss the the lush wildflowers, and having a host mom or a campus chef to cut up pineapple and papaya for my breakfast. But getting back in touch with the extended play version of my wardrobe has taken some of the sting out of winter.
At my school, we’re in the throes of January term. We watch the daylight extinguish itself all afternoon, so that when class around 4 p.m. we’re nearly bumping into twilight (or, perhaps the pastel dryer-lint gray sky gives way to nighttime charcoal.)
One of my students remarked on my colorful wardrobe earlier this week. I was wearing dark red cords and a royal blue and purple striped turtleneck sweater. I second-guessed myself. Was all of this color too much? “It helps me get through the winter,” I explained.
And just yesterday I dug out a yellow and gray button-up sweater with the knitted bodice and silky (ok, rayony) sleeves in a big punchy floral print. This garment doesn’t have shoulder pads but easily could. That sweater is a little bit Golden Girls, a little bit Falcon Crest. And it makes me shine like a sunbeam.
I’m crushing on the cinnamon spice and barley infinity scarf (at the top of this post) from etsy seller LuluLuvs. The gold hat, The Betty, is from Krochet Kids International. I have one of KKI’s infinity scarves in gray. Yes, gray, but it tones down some of my blinding sweaters and blouses. And the scarf is so cozy, it’s like wearing a hug.
For those of you of certain latitudes or weather patterns, what are the winter clothes that lift your spirit?
