The program begins broadcasting this month on PBS, Nat Geo Music & Adventure, and other television outlets. Host Jacob Edgar (head of indie label <ins datetime="2010-02-01T06:37:05+00:00">Cumbancha</ins> and music researcher for the <ins datetime="2010-02-01T06:37:05+00:00">Putumayo World Music</ins> label) travels the globe in search of great music and adventure. The first three episodes find him in India; the second three trek through Jamaica. Local musicians guide him in each location, and viewers get a backstage pass to festivals, recording studios, and little-known venues. Enjoy the journey!

A lot of TravelTracks readers have probably already seen this video, but it doesn’t seem right to let it go by without a mention. It’s a version of “Stand By Me” that’s different from any that you’ve heard before. Filmmaker Mark Johnson traveled around the world and asked local street musicians to perform the song. Each performer was able to hear what had come before him or her and build on it. The moving result is the very essence of world music. After you watch the video, check out <ins datetime="2009-07-28T06:52:26+00:00">playingforchange.org</ins> to learn more.
