Photo Friday: Gringo Feliz

This photo, taken in Aguas Calientes, Peru, did not help stimulate my appetite after a long day exploring the ruins of Machu Picchu.

Luckily, I had already taken the opportunity to sample baked guinea pig, a South American delicacy, earlier in my travels; I may not have been so brave with this image emblazoned on my mind!

One of my personal responsible travel tenets is to make an effort to sample local “delicacies” like these, especially when offered in generous spirits from your hosts.

You can read more about my adventurous diet in Peru in my Wandertale, “Vegetarianism Takes a Holiday”.

Angela – this photo is priceless. Luckily, I’ve never tried baked guinea pig but the crumbed chicken looks kinda yummy!

At least it wasn’t billed as “crummy chicken”!

I’ve been seeing features all over the place about guinea pig entrees lately. You’re right, it’s a little off-putting to see photos like these before you try it!
