Emma, I couldn’t agree with you more! Yet you’d be surprised how many people hold back – maybe they are shy or afraid of embarrassment. It’s amazing to see how a little will go a long way when you just give it a shot!

I’ve always thought of it as a common courtesy to learn the language of the country. After all you are a guest. It seems to be the least a tourist can do to at least make an effort.

Thanks for the reminder of how important it is to learn some of the language. Often, we expect locals to speak English and get frustrated when they don’t. It’s their world, we’re just visiting it!
