This recently launched, vintage-inspired coffee shop is outfitted with retro, mismatched furniture, apothecary accessories and an overall cool vibe that oozes from the baristas and clientele alike. Opened by former Miami-based art director, JoJo Corvaia, the space blends his effortless style and quirky art with function and charm. Low slung seating, purposefully distressed hardwood floors and a proper vinyl collection blend together to create a space that has me wishing I could bag it all up and unleash it on my downtown, dream apartment. It’s the kind of place I’d have loved to have come up with first (nevermind the fact that I don’t have one design-inclined bone in my body). However, since I can’t live here or own it, I’ve settled for adding it into my stable “coffee shops as offices” rotation. Despite the lack of non-living room style tables and chairs, the dependable wifi and abundant power strips make it a great place to post up with your laptop for the day…provided you don’t mind actually holding the device in your lap.
Arabica also has an eclectic menu featuring an assortment of artisan toasts and sandwiches as well as international specialties such as Dukkah – roasted nuts, spices and olive oil served with a side of bread for dipping. Drink-wise they’re serving Stumptown espressos and custom teas including sage or roasted rice chai as well as a handpicked selection of beer, wine and cider. One thing to note: many of the Arabica’s baristas are new to the gig so their latte-making skills are still on the up-and-up, but don’t hold it against them just yet. Stumptown’s crew has been doling out crash courses on crafting the perfect cup so they’re bound to get it right sooner than later.
For now, they’re opening early (6AM) and closing late (11PM), so stop by and say hi…just be sure you don’t steal my outlet.
