I know I’m getting dangerously close to Thursday with this Wanderfood Wednesday post but I have a good excuse, I promise! I’ve been on a plane all day and didn’t charge my computer before I left, so the wi-fi on the plane did me no good. Don’t feel too bad for me though… I’m now in sunny Florida where the high tomorrow is estimated to be around 85 degrees. BUT, I wanted to fill you in on a few events happening around Seattle this weekend that I’m sad to be missing. If you have a chance to check any of these out, be sure to make me jealous in the comments:
- Fremont Brewing is teaming up with Theo Chocolate and Mt. Townsend Creamery for a tasting/screening of the Seattle flick “Fresh,” a documentary on the superstars of sustainable agriculture. All that’s fine and good but what I’m interested in hearing about is the beer-infused chocolate lovechild of Fremont Brewing and Theo’s. Even though they’re not gluten-free, I’m still verrryyy intrigued. Get your tickets now!
- Calf and Kid opens this Friday in the new Melrose project. I had a chance to talk to the owner, Sheri, the other day and I can’t begin to explain how excited I am about their arrival in my ‘hood. Sheri’s going to be stocking a mix of imported and local cheeses in addition to hosting regular “Meet the Cheesemaker” events. Personally, I’m loving her hilarious cheese descriptions. But I’m not giving away any of her secrets here, you’ll have to visit her for a laugh. Be sure to follow her on Twitter @calfandkid for updates and specials.
- Also in the new Melrose project, Rain Shadow Meats will be opening it’s doors on Friday. I don’t have quite as many details but the Seattle Met says “the butcher shop will carry locally sourced meats and charcuterie and house a custom curing room.” Yes, please!
- Not in the mood to go too far or try anything adventurous? If you’re in the U-District, swing by the newly opened Po Dogs on the Ave or call in a ‘Zaw pizza in Queen Anne when they open on Saturday.
