I’ve never been to Seattle, but I’ve always had this feeling the the city and I would get along swimmingly. There’s just something about all of the descriptions I’ve heard about it that makes it seem like I would really love it. One little problem – I don’t have any really good travel companions to convince to take a trip with me (I live in Atlanta). So I started looking for sites about going it alone – thus bringing me to Wanderlust and Lipstick. Now I’m super excited about planning a solo trip to Seattle and then on to explore the Olympic National Park – all by my lonesome. Maybe June?
Hey Sarah – That’s awesome! Seattle is definitely solo and women traveler friendly. Stay tuned to the blog for a post about my trip to the Olympic Peninsula. And be sure to drop me a line if you make it out here!
I love Seattle because it is beautiful, green, clean and safe. I love it because it is an outdoor lover’s paradise. I love the water, the mountains, and the trails. I’ve been there twice (did the Rock N Roll half marathon last year) and I dream of moving there permanently!
I visited Seattle for the first time a couple of years ago during a pristine Thanksgiving weekend and simply fell in love! I was lucky because it was clear weather that weekend, but really longed for it to rain- in answer, I got a light snowfall as I walked around downtown on my last night and was in heaven! I almost didn’t come back to LA because I felt so at home here! Everywhere I went, the people were so friendly- it felt like they were all my neighbors already- I even participated in an impromptu ‘free hugs’ demonstratIon! There’s such a strong shared respect for the environment, art, quality coffee and brunch that I can’t believe I didn’t grow up here!
I’m planning my next trip in May, and can’t wait to immerse myself back into Seattle life- from riding the light rail, to browsing the library, and hopefully this time I can catch the Underground tour! I just wish I could work more hours to afford everything I wanted to do. But even if the economy isn’t being good to me, I know some fresh air coming off Puget sound, will do me some good! Do they sell ‘I heart Seattle’ shirts?
Oh, and Andrea—if Seattle is calling you, you might be better off going alone than with someone who’s not so in tune. I went with a friend who didn’t want to do anything out of doors, and spent the entire vacation inside (except when I finally drug her to a hike to the Falls). So, I explored all of downtown on foot on my own. Public transportation is very accessible, and affordable- especially in the ‘free ride area’! Personally, I felt the walk from westlake station to Pike Place Market to Pioneer Square was easily done in half a day, and I felt safe- even looked out for- the entire way on my own. This is definitely a solo-female traveler’s ideal destination! I hope you get a chance to go!
Last MSG @Andrea- not Sarah(whom I’m agreeing with). Sorry for the typo!
Lol- I still didn’t do the @ right- you get what I meant. Does anyone know anything about kayak touring to see Orcas around May? Or is Whale watching boat a better trip?
Do we have a winner?
Yep, sorry about the delay! Our system was down and I was unable to pull subscribers. Thanks to all for entering!
@Stephanie – I haven’t been on either of those tours yet but they are definitely on my list! Anyone else have any insight on either of these tours?
Seattle is the happening place. Cradle on the space needle
Seattle is truly unique. It is like finding a space Needle in a haystack.
