An Accounting Education (Part Two)
...the continuation of how my travels led to my accounting education…
I arrived in Sydney, Australia in December of 2004, looking forward to spending some time with Ron, and also looking forward to doing a bit of traveling in this country. One of the reasons why I went to Australia was to see if Ron and I could pursue a relationship together, so most of my time during my travels to Australia was actually spent living in Sydney. (This experience of living in Sydney could cover many other blogs, so I shall not go into too much detail here.)
While I was in trying to live in Sydney, even though I wanted to do some traveling, I also wanted to find a job down under to help with my finances, and to occupy some of my time. Unfortunately, because of a few reasons, I was unable to get a working Visa. Since I could not work, I still wanted to find a way to keep myself busy during the days while Ron was working, and during the times that I did not travel. So, it as at this point in my life that I decided to go back to school!!

I had toyed with the idea of getting my accounting degree a few times prior to this, but I never followed through. So this time, I took action. I found an online program with a school in the United States (actually, they were conveniently located in Seattle, Washington, which is where I was living), that would conveniently ship my books to Sydney. This online program gave me the freedom of being able to study on my own time, as I would not have to sit in a classroom for hours on end (which I did during my first college education). I still had to find a proctor to take my exams, and I found one at the University of Sydney. Most importantly, this freedom allowed me to get out and travel in Australia every once in a while. And, one of the other side-effects about an online education was that I could take my books with me and sit on the beaches of Sydney to study! (Now that’s the life…)

Well, three months went by in Australia, and needless to say, things with Ron did not work out. But, at least, I was able to do a bit of traveling in Australia, and I finished my first accounting class. When I headed back to the United States, I decided to continue my education. I continued with the online program, so that I could go back to work full-time as well.
So for the next several years, I studied away, and now I am on my last class! Yipee!! And that is the story of how my travels led me to my education…from Europe to the Cinque Terre to Paris to Sydney to my accounting degree!!

Oh, there is one another way that my education has related to my travels. Even though I have been studying over the past few years, I have taken off a few quarters here and there from school so that I could travel!! My trips to Iceland, Vietnam, and the Baltic Sea occurred during the breaks that I gave myself from school.
Well, I’m off to study some more, and come March 23, I will be completely free to travel again…
Sweet Travels!
