What do skiers really desire? A whole box full of brand new socks.
I have had fantasies involving a new pair of socks for everyday of the season. Wasteful maybe, but I know I’m not alone. In fact, type “new socks everyday” into a search engine and you will find many a paragraph dedicated to the love of cozy feet. Right now, I’m pretty satisfied with having enough pairs of ski socks to make it to laundry day. Dream big though, right?
The best ski socks are…
- THIN! Believe it or not, you will be far more comfortable and warm with a thin sock. If your boot is properly fitted, a slimmer fitting sock will promote better circulation: no bunching or hot spots. The Ski Diva even has a forum with a slew of ladies supporting the thin sock theory.
Hot Spot [/hät/spät/]
noun
An area affected by either rubbing or pressure inside a ski boot. Can cause discomfort or pain. - NATURAL! A high percentage of natural fibers such as wool offer several benefits: moisture absorption, odor control, warmth and comfort.
- DURABLE! A ski sock that lasts longer than a season is a winner. Despite my declaration of love for new socks daily, it’s always best to buy fewer, better quality socks.
Try Smartwool’s PhD line for some of the best ski socks around. They’ve been my go-to make for years, hitting all three characteristics: thin, natural and durable.
