The trees are on fire in New Hampshire. Looking out my window as I write this, the tree dominating the view is bright orange, reminiscent of Crayola’s “Orange Circuit” crayon. It’s jaw-droppingly beautiful and makes me so grateful to live in New England.
Ski Gypsy man and I have been driving all over Vermont and New Hampshire the past couple weeks, just soaking in the colours of a number of ski resorts. One such place was Loon Mountain in Lincoln (NH). Like many resorts, Loon runs it’s lifts in the off season for a variety of activities including leaf peeping in the fall. For $16, take the Gondola Skyride for the longest scenic ride in New Hampshire.
Being pretty early in the season, the foliage had just started to turn. Funnily enough, the most vibrantly coloured trees I found on my visit were in the parking lot. Bright as bright could be, the red foliage was mesmerizing despite its less than exciting location. As a whole, Loon Mountain is simply stunning, especially from the summit. Taking in the alpine lake, dotted all around with fiery trees and gazing at the hazy outlines of surrounding mountains is nothing short of breathtaking. The White Mountains simply can’t be beat for foliage season.
