We here at Wanderlust and Lipstick can’t review all the great outdoor gear there is out there. Sadly there’s just not enough time and too much gear. ð So, I thought I’d share some of my favorite gear blogs that I turn to before I purchase anything myself. Mind you, there are many out there, but these are just four of the best outdoor gear blogs that I think you should be reading. (After Lady Sherpa, of course. Wink wink.)
Amy is an avid outdoor adventurer who loves biking, ice climbing, hiking-pretty much all activities under the sun. She lives in the Bay Area in California, and in the past has kept herself busy working as an investment professional and financial consultant. She started The Gear Caster in 2009 as a hobby, and recently was named one of Outside Online Best Gear Websites of 2013. Last month she returned back from a gear testing multi-day pack rafting trip in the Gates of the Arctic National Park. Umm.. awesome? Yes please.
Jill Missal, head Gear Gal, is a total bada**. She works as a Search and Rescue officer up in Alaska, which also happens to be the State that she calls home. A sucker for outdoor adventures, she keeps herself busy backcountry skiing, mountain biking, and well, locating people lost in the Great Outdoors. All the while, she testing out new gear and sharing with her readers her no-holds-bar opinion of the stuff. Oh, and did I mention that she’s hilarious? Yeah, that too. Check out her recent post, Mountain Rescues; Awesomes and Bummers.  Had me chuckling while reading.
The breadth of gear reviews that Active Gear Review posts is utterly overwhelming. This was my impression my first visit to the site. Luckily, they have organized it in such a way that’s user-friendly and easy to use. Neatly divided into subcategories such as Brands, Running, Cycling, Footwear, and more, it’s a breeze to find the gear best for you. If you’re like me, chances are you’ll even end up trying out some products you hadn’t even heard of thanks to Active Gear.
Much more than just a gear review website, as said in their About section, Adventure Journal is an online magazine devoted to outdoor adventure in all its forms”. Â While the photography is amazing and the articles well-written, I also find the gear reviews to be spot-on and truly well tested. Mind you, they don’t just keep it to gear such as packs, sunglasses, jackets, etc. They also have some great side pieces such as The 10 Best Beers in Cans. Who says beer isn’t gear anyway?
