Today is the day that India celebrates their throwing off of the colonial yoke of oppression which was the British rule of this country. At the stroke of midnight, the British handed India back to the diverse nation of people who had struggled and fought and agitated for their freedom.
Its difficult to find a silver lining in the ashes of a city destroyed but its there in the most simple and humble ways. Buildings may crumble but that indomitable human spirit of kindness that results in Kotahitanga will always stand tall amongst the rubble.
I looked around my backyard and saw that this also is a holy place with food falling from the trees and sprouting in the garden with chooks scattering by. I pressed my nose against the sky and blessed the road. The road is Life.
