Joao Silva is a photo journalist who works for the NY Times. He has received numerous awards for his work and has covered major upheavals around the globe. He was accompanying American soldiers in Southern Afghanistan on Oct 23rd, 2010 when he stepped on an antipersonal mine. He lost both his legs and sustained multiple internal injuries.
