Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage

Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage is more than a massage. It is considered by Hawaiian masters of Lomi Lomi to be “The Loving Touch.”

Setting the intention for healing, the kahuna would also utilize prayer (pule), breath (ha) and energy (mana). Aunty Margaret, who is one of the oldest and widely recognized teachers of Lomi Lomi, has this definition of Lomi Lomi which is: “The Loving Touch – a connection of heart, hands and soul with the Source of All Life. ” Students of Lomi Lomi learn to flow the love from the heart, through the hands, to connect with the soul of the one receiving the massage. Lomi Lomi massage uses long strokes that work different areas of the body at the same time. This helps to relax the mind because the mind cannot focus on two areas at the same time. Lomi Lomi therapists use thumbs, forearms and elbows to work the muscles of the body. They use broad strokes and a lavish amount of oil to keep the fluidity of motion as they work their forearms, thumbs and elbows across the muscles.

During my visit to Maui I had the opportunity to receive a Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage at the Hyatt Moana Spa. This was an outstanding massage experience and one I would recommend and hope to experience again. One interesting thing happened during my massage. As she worked the muscles of my body, the therapist said,” You have been protecting your heart. You are beginning to open your heart again.” The therapist didn’t know me but she was exactly right. I had been doing exactly that and her comment touched me deeply, helping me to realize that Lomi Lomi massage is much more than massage. it is a time of spiritual connection between the Lomi Lomi therapist, spirit and the receipient’s body.

The Moana Spa offers a variety of wonderful massage options. One thing I loved about my experience was the relaxation room. It has an ocean view with reclining loungers, a soothing atmosphere and beautiful Hawaiian flowers. Spa visitors can relax there and enjoy the beauty before leaving the spa.
