Bringing the beach home
There is almost nothing that makes me happier than a morning or evening walk along the beach, enjoying the natural beauty and calm tranquility I find there. Maybe that’s what propels me to find ways to bring it home. If you walked into my home you would see again and again the ways in which I bring the beach home.
You can bring your memories home just as I do. The best part is that these memories are small, portable and cost virtually nothing to create.
1. Collect your favorite rocks, sea glass, feathers, shells and some sand.
2.. Store your favorites in ziploc bags during your trip, making a written note of the beach/island where you found these treasures.
3. When you return home, choose simple containers. This way the focus remains on the sand, shell or rocks you have selected.
4. Keep the containers small so that the natural beauty of nature fits in without being overdone or overused.
An example of bringing nature home is a set of similar shape/size shells I found three years ago on a small island off the coast of New Brunswick. This group of shells now graces my dining table as napkin/place holders. From simple glass bowls of sand collected on the Hawaiian Islands, to smooth rocks collected on a beach in Spain, these treasures have become both memories and décor. Each time I look at my dishes of sand, shells or rocks I remember my trips around the globe and the memories I’ve created there.

What a simple way to incorporate various natural elements into your home. I also like that these ideas can look so classy for virtually no cash outlay. Great for those that are just starting to travel and don’t have a large souvenier budget.
Do you bring the beach to your car as well?
I try to create an island style atmosphere in every area of my life. In my car I’ve hung a shell necklace from Guam and sitting in a little niche are beach shells I’ve collected here in Florida
