Water. A precious resource and life source. In and around the islands of Bocas del Toro, stormy skies intermixed with days of sunshine are welcome. Rainwater catchment systems are prevalent as are solar panels. Welcome to Waterworld.
On San Cristobal Island tucked away in Dolphin Bay, is the Dolphin Bay Hideaway. Upon arrival, rain barrels at this Eco-lodge and luscious garden were running low. I had just experienced a torrential downpour on Bastimentos Island but that rainfall had stayed local.
That night while I was tucked in cozily, the rains came. In the morning, I awoke to find perfect pearl-shaped droplets on the petals and leaves along the garden paths. After the rain is a beautiful time for photography. The colors are vivid, the light is even, and sometimes small creatures are busy bathing or collecting dew.
At the Dolphin Bay Hideaway, the treasures are abundant. There are pearl drops in the garden, silvery dolphins in the bay, golden glows at sunset, and gems of every color in the rainbows after the rains.
