Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.

[Self portrait in sandals on a cobblestone stone street in the Trestevere neighborhood of Rome, Italy]
Cobblestones: This portrait of my feet conjures memories in a way that a self portrait of my face would not. Walking in heeled sandals on curvy cobblestone streets of Trestevere in my swingy black travel skirt and my gold and red blouse. Live music in the Piazza di Santa Maria. Getting lost and loosing my travel partner. Exploring Rome as I found my way back to our hotel. Speaking broken Italian to charming locals. For me, all of these memories and more are captured here in this one simple image.
[Self portrait in sandals on the marble floor of the Vatican – Rome, Italy]
Vatican: The Vatican Museums are visually and emotionally overwhelming – even the marble floors are endlessly intricate and worth your attention. When I took this image, I’d lost my travel partner again. [Yes – getting lost is a theme with me when I travel and I’m a-okay with that.] This image reminds me of that amazing day and also that sometimes a place is so amazing that you have to pinch yourself and take an image of your feet on the ground to remind yourself later that indeed yes, you really were there. 🙂
Snapshot Challenge: On your next trip, try taking a few snapshots of your feet in different locales. It can be a fun exercise that’s sure to bring back great memories. Bonus: If you are a lover of shoes – this is a fun way to catalog your unique style.
