Remember your first camera phone? According to Wikipedia, the first commercial digital phones hit the North American market in 2004. It’s amazing how far technology has come – from blurry unprintable images to art quality technology in a few short years. My favorite part of camera phone technology is the apps. There are fish eye apps, Polaroid apps, and apps that allow you to “virtually shoot” from all kinds of old film cameras. Best of all, there are new apps all the time.
Many cell phone apps are also available for your computer – they work well on their own and also when combined with traditional photo editing software. Today I want to focus on one app in particular – Vintage Scene. I have Vintage Scene on my MacBook and I love to use it with travel images. Here’s an example of what Vintage Scene can do:
Here’s a self portrait taken on a balcony in Florence that was edited in Photoshop Elements:
And here’s the same image edited in Vintage Scene:
The app offers several pre-set effects that change the contrast, grain, coloring, and edges of your image. I like that it also lets you manually fine tune each of these effects to your specific tastes.
I am excited to be a photo enthusiast living in the technology age. As photography becomes more accessible and more images are made by more people all over the world, the evolution of the art is nothing short of amazing. Here at Global Snapshots I review photo-related gear and technology as I come across products that peek my interest and imagination. I recommend Vintage Scene – it’s fast, fun, easy to use, and at only $1.99-7.99 to purchase, it’s also a great value. Available for your iPhone or your Apple computer; check it out: http://www.jixipix.com/vintage-scene/vintage-scene.html.
Now, if I could just find the perfect camera bag for curvy women. 🙂
In Joy,
Melinda
