Photo(s) of the Week: The Forbidden City vs. The Temple of Heaven
My husband and I have a ridiculous argument about whether the Temple of Heaven or Forbidden City is more beautiful. He favors the former and I the latter. This ranks right up there with our debate about whether Washington or Lincoln was the better president. Either way, they are both impressive.

Good debate, I enjoyed both but was a little disappointed with both receiving fresh coats of paint. The park around the Temple of Heaven has some elderly characters like amateurs opera singers and caligraphy painters who love to chat in English with you. Not sure about the Forbidden City, I think hawkers just want to take your money.
You are right…they are both impressive! This an area of the world that I have not spent a lot of time but would like to. Thanks for sharing!
Forbidden City – definitely!(Although I was there pre-Olympics…) No hawkers. People just wanted to take my photo (since I, er, didn’t look Chinese)
I love any kind of debate where both parties get to be right. Looks like it can be agreed that both of these places are most beautiful.
I would love to visit either one so I vote that you are both right!
Yes, they are both beautiful and it is a luxury to be able to participate in such a debate. The community scene with singers, dancers and Chinese style hackey sack players is wonderful in the park surrounding the Temple of Heaven. It’s a great way to get a taste of local culture, not found at the Forbidden City.
I have to vote for the Forbidden City because I’ve been three times now and am always discovering something I haven’t seen before! That said, I love the neighborhood feel of the Temple of Heaven.
I haven’t been here yet myself but I agree with the others – these both do look beautiful!
