Photo Friday: Chennai Street Performance
The NGO I volunteer with focuses on education, advocacy, and organizing for vulnerable and disadvantaged women in the slums of Chennai and surrounding communities. One of their target groups is adolescent girls. And one of the ways they get the word out is through public street performances of dance, drama, and singing. Love it!
Here are some shots from a recent “sunset” performance at Chennai’s Marina Beach for the post-work crowds. The topic was child sexual abuse awareness and prevention.

This post is part of the Photo Friday series. Happy weekend!

Great photos! I love the idea of helping disadvantaged young women in slums…they really need advocates, so kudos to you. It’s a great reminder how good we have it here. Their colorful outfits are beautiful!
The NGO also works with domestic workers and single women (including widows, never-married, and abandoned women). Of all the groups they work with, the programs for the adolescent girls are closest to my heart. I don’t have the statistics on hand, but the percentage of reported child sexual abuse in the areas the NGO serves is astonishingly high.
The girls looked beautiful and did a great job!
