Bhutan April, 2009 – Update 5

Tigers Nest from Viewpoint

The big finale for our tour to Bhutan was climbing to Tiger’s Nest. The above photo was taken from the viewpoint a bit more than a stone’s throw from this spectacular monastery.

This sacred building, located not far from the town of Paro, is perched on the side of a mountain more than 10,000 feet high. It houses seven beautiful temples and is an ancient spiritual place where Guru Padmasambhava meditated in the 8th century. As the story goes… the Guru flew there on the back of a tiger. How else would he get there, right?

Prayer Flags Bhutan

Prayer flags are strung all along the path that leads up to Tiger’s Nest. Mantras are printed on the flags and these prayers are carried by the wind across the valley – carrying spiritual messages to everyone.
Group at Tiger's Nest

Here’s our amazing group of gals at one of the viewpoints. 17 women! We were an unusual sight, that’s for sure!

Travel Well,
