Bhutan April, 2009 Update 3 - Wanderlust and Lipstick

Bumthang Valley

After departing Trongsa, our group ventured farther east into the heart of Bhutan, to the Bumthang region. After staying in different towns the first 4 nights, I think we all enjoyed settling in for a few nights and exploring the surrounding area.

The Bumthang area is actually 4 major valleys. We walked through several of these valleys, traversing suspension bridges and skirting farmland. Some of us got up early for morning walks where we mingled with the monks on their way to temples.

Some of the highlights during these few days were:

a cooking class (which I’ll write about in a separate post because it was AWESOME!)
hiking in the Tang valley and a visit to a nunnery
riverside picnics with some amazingly fresh food
a special outdoor dance performance arranged for our group

Sounds like a great time! Looking forward to the post about the cooking class. Hopefully I can join the Bhutan trip one of these days.

The cooking class was totally amazing. I think my tour is the only one that features it (though now I’m sure it will catch on!). Hope you can join us one day, too, Lola!
