Bay Area Stay
After leaving Mt. Shasta shrouded in complete fog and clouds, I scooted down to the Bay Area, staying with lovely couchsurfing hosts in Alamo.
Steve and Mary-Anne are total food and wine lovers as well as big-time travelers. Mary-Anne had worked with a couple of different import companies for twenty years and had the opportunity to travel to 60 countries, visiting Thailand and India 30 times each. She must have had some frequent flier account!
In addition to their vast travel experiences, what I found even more interesting was their absolute love of cooking and their collective talents of creating beautiful Thai and Indian meals. Mary-Anne introduced me to iFood.tv and showed me some of her food photography as well as some well produced food-related videos such as the making of street foods in Mumbai. I’m looking forward to being at home just so I can spend some more time on this amazing site.
(For those of you who don’t know me personally, please note that I’m not big into cooking - well, I’m just starting to get into it, that is. It’s like a whole new world opening up to me and when I see what beautiful and delicious food a human (as opposed to a celebrity chef) can create, I’m truly inspired.)
Happy Travels!

Oh, Beth, you are traveling in some of the most beautiful parts of our country and I envy you. Also, you piqued my interest with your talk of your couchsurfing friends and their knowledge of street cooking in Mumbai. I was always afraid to eat street food, but look what happened to me on my last trip to India eating restaurant food. Also, there are now restaurants in places like Dharamsala offering cooking courses in such specialities as soups and palak paneer and other dishes I’ve learned to love. Thanks for the information and I’ll look at their website.
In the meantime, I’m posting pictures on Facebook to acquaint my readers with the people of Myanmar/Burma in the wake of the terrible government repression of the peaceful protests. I was there last January, but could feel the growing tension which finally burst forth in August. Perhaps your readers would be interested. Here are the links.
