Summer greetings, Wanderluster!
This month is a busy one for me. Having just returned from Kauai, I’m off to southern Cali for a series of talks (see Events at right) sponsored by PacSafe, and then on to NYC for TBEX, the Travel Bloggers Conference at the end of the June. Hoping to then settle in to enjoy the Seattle summer!
But I’m not the only one keeping busy. Michelle Duffy, aka WanderMom, will be co-hosting a night of travel on June 3 at the Woodmark Hotel in Kirkland, WA. Free Traveling with Kids book to all registrants!
I’m also eager to announce a very special Women-only Yoga Tour to Bhutan for April, 2011 (details below). Led by Susan Weis of breathe books, this is a chance to explore the spiritual side of the Kingdom through yoga, meditation and Ayurveda.

BHUTAN PHOTOGRAPHY – SEPT. 17 – 28, 2010
Join former National Geographic photographer and Pulitzer Prize finalist, Natalie Fobes, as she leads a 12-day co-ed photography tour to Bhutan.
The Himalayas are your backdrop as you capture images of the harvest season (wheat and chilli peppers) and cultural festivals. TREKKING IN EASTERN BHUTAN – OCTOBER 12 – 28, 2010
Bhutan is a relatively unexplored country. But, it doesn’t get much more remote anywhere on the planet than Eastern Bhutan. This co-ed 17-day tour includes 5 days of trekking in the rarely visited region of Eastern Bhutan. You’ll also partake in jeep safaris in Northeast India. This area of Bhutan opened to travelers in 2009 and will be like nothing you’ve ever experienced. Includes the Mongar Festival and a hike to Tiger’s Nest. Back by popular demand, this 18-day North India tour includes Diwali, the Pushkar Camel Fair, the Taj Mahal and visits to Varanasi, Khajuraho, Jaipur, Udaipur and Jodhpur. This unique journey has been specially crafted for women and includes unique opportunities where you get to experience the diverse culture of the subcontinent through special pujas (prayers), private music concerts and safaris in the desert of Rajasthan. SOUTH INDIA (women-only) – Jan. 14 – 30, 2011
This trip incorporates the best of South India including spectacular temples, tours of tea and spice plantations, wildlife viewing in a national park and relaxing on pristine beaches. This 17-day journey explores the highlights of these two southeast Asian countries. It’s World Cup Soccer time and all eyes are on South Africa. Makes sense that the folks over at Putumayo would release this compilation of music from SA. This historically troubled and politically-charged country has often churned out internationally recognized musicians. A number of them, including Miriam Makeba and the Soweto Gospel Choir, are featured on this upbeat CD. Available on Amazon

180° South with Yvon Chouinard and Douglas Tompkins
Every adventurer will dig this journey to Patagonia with Jeff Johnson as he documents his travels along the route to South America in pursuit of Patagonia Inc. and North Face founders, Yvon and Doug. The surfing and climbing footage alone will leave you with envy but there’s a great story here and lots of interviews and a message about the state of the environment. Not yet available on DVD but it is in theaters.
